nesigurnost i strah. Rat koji traje od 2014.
prerastao je u najveći napad na europsko
tlo nakon Drugog svjetskog rata. Danas se prijetnja širi i
dalje – Europi, NATO-u i našim
saveznicima.
U takvim okolnostima, život u dijaspori postaje sve
nesigurniji. Obrazovanima je teško, onima bez snažnijih struka i zanata još
teže. Ljudi rade više poslova, nemaju vremena za obitelj, a djeca rastu
izložena ulici, iskušenjima i opasnostima.
Mnogi
roditelji olako shvaćaju izazove, misleći „pustimo djecu neka žive“. A kad prvi
put posrnu, često je već prekasno. Zato i domovina i dijaspora moraju zajedno
prepoznati ovu opasnost. Jer ako
izgubimo mlade – izgubili smo budućnost.
U tom razmišljanju unaprijed, pronašao sam i razlog
do Zagreba i dalje?
Zato sam postao Ambasador
politički, društveno i pojedinačno – razmišljamo više unaprijed. Ne za sebe, nego za zajedničko dobro. Za Hrvatsku, za dijasporu, za naš
narod.
To je moja misija. To je moj zavjet.

WHY I BECAME
AN AMBASSADOR OF THE MARSHALL PLAN FOR CROATIA WITH DIASPORA
Looking at the past and present, and thinking ahead, I always arrive at the same truth – immigrant life is hard. Hard like the “bread of seven crusts.” Croats in the diaspora, separated from their homeland, have always had to work tirelessly to build a life for themselves and their families. They worked without pause, yet still tried to save and to help those back home.
Today, however, the situation in the diaspora is even
more difficult. The war in Europe,
which escalated with Russia’s
invasion of Ukraine in 2022, has brought insecurity and fear.
A conflict that began in 2014 has grown into the largest attack on European
soil since World War II. Today, the threat spreads further – to Europe, NATO, and our allies.
In such circumstances, life in the diaspora is
becoming increasingly uncertain. It is difficult for the highly educated, and
even harder for those without strong professions or trades. Many work multiple
jobs, leaving no time for family, while children grow up exposed to the
streets, temptations, and dangers. And while parents, consumed by the struggle
for survival, often fail to notice, it is the children who suffer the most.
Alcohol, drugs, and emptiness – these are the enemies of the future.
But the situation is not much better in the homeland.
Many parents underestimate the challenges, thinking, “let the children live.”
Yet when the first fall happens – through alcohol, drugs, or other temptations
– it is often already too late. That is why both homeland and diaspora must
recognize this danger together. Because if we lose our youth – we lose our
future.
In this forward-looking reflection, I found the reason
for my commitment. If the world has had people like McCarthy, who opened the way for artificial intelligence, or
visionaries who created platforms that transformed communication like Twitter (today’s X), why should we not
build our own center of knowledge – from Frankfurt
to Zagreb and beyond?
Such a center, such a vision, is selflessly promoted
by Zdenko Štriga, an expert from Frankfurt, founder and president of
the Marshall Plan for Croatia with
Diaspora. He works not for himself, but for the homeland and for all Croats –
both in Croatia and abroad. As an
advisor in the Ministry of
Demography and Immigration, together with colleagues and partners, he develops
the CRO GREEN platform across
counties. In cooperation with the association Return of Croats to Croatiaand its founder and president Verko Kutleša, he is building bridges for the return of our
diaspora.
These are people and ideas that awaken hope. These are
the foundations on which I, too, want to build.
That is why I became an Ambassador of the Marshall
Plan for Croatia – because I believe it is possible to connect homeland and
diaspora in a common struggle for a better tomorrow. Because I believe that Croatia can be a homeland worth
returning to. And because I believe that only unity can save us.
I want us all –
politically, socially, and individually – to think further ahead. Not just for
ourselves, but for the common good. For
Croatia, for the diaspora, for our people.
This is my
mission. This is my pledge.
